The Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s 2012 State Convention is coming up on Friday and Saturday June 8-9 at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton.  You can find out more about the Convention at www.wisdems.org/events/convention.

Our delegate list needs to be submitted to the State Party by 5:00pm on Friday May 18th.  Please get your name and contact information into the County Party by the end of the day on Thursday, May 17th at the latest if you want to become a delegate to the 2012 convention.

Information on how and where to get yours will be posted here and to our Facebook page as soon as we receive them.

Four years ago the original “Brat Obama” buttons were a huge hit after Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota was given one while stumping for President Obama in Sheboygan and subsequently presenting her button to Rachel Maddow.

The following is a list of drop-in sites and upcoming events over the next week or so. Please sign up for a shift or two at one of the organized signing events and help us keep this thing rolling!

You can sign up for shifts by calling 920-395-3601. If you can’t volunteer at any of these dates, make sure to pass the word so that others can get out to these events to help out or sign the petition.

You can also call 920-395-3601 if you have questions, need a home visit, would like to volunteer or to listen to an updated list of events.

In addition to the volunteer opportunities there are a couple of casual drop-in sites and open houses where anyone can come and sign the recall petition.

Under heavy security and with sparse crowds at their annual convention, Wisconsin Republican leaders gave conflicting signals about the internal discord racking their party and their attempts to defend the Scott Walker-Paul Ryan overreach.

After coming under withering attacks by Scott Walker loyalists, Washington lobbyist Tommy G. Thompson apparently skipped town-and a defense of the millions in D.C. dollars he’s taken in since his time in Wisconsin.

Paul Ryan continued to defend his plan to end Medicare.

Ron Johnson, who all but said he opposed Thompson’s candidacy, praised plans to shred the middle-class safety net while preserving tax loopholes for companies that ship jobs overseas.

But looming over the entire grim proceeding was the Scott Walker overreach which has divided a state and united working families in the effort to recall six eligible senators.

Scott Walker himself tried to rally the faithful to his extreme agenda that has caused the recall of six sitting Republican senators-and imperiling his plans to bring massive cuts to education, BadgerCare, the UW System and SeniorCare.

“Scott Walker is right to fear recall elections of his lockstep legislators because that would put an end to their rubber-stamping of his extremist agenda that is dividing Wisconsin,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Saturday. “It goes to show that Scott Walker is not focused on helping the struggling middle-class, but merely obsessed with his own power.”
